Invest in Our Future knows that philanthropy must provide crucial support for communities seeking to embrace clean energy. We provide a hub for collaboration—identifying gaps, opportunities, and effective organizations in this emerging space.
We connect longstanding clean energy developers and community leaders with a broad range of stakeholders to deliver projects nationwide.
We drive coordination across sectors, testing and scaling new models for accelerating equitable investment.
And we partner with organizations primed to advance our three strategic objectives: forging and expanding project pipelines, addressing siting and permitting barriers to deployment, and developing a high-quality, equitable clean energy workforce.
Embedded across these objectives, IOF supports targeted communications and mobilization capacity to continue building durable support for clean energy.
Forging and Expanding Project Pipelines
To unleash clean energy’s full potential, we need to launch new projects in thousands of places—and we need communities to make clear they want those projects.
Invest in Our Future is building clean energy demand, boosting the ability of Tribal Nations, state and local governments, as well as community organizations, to scope projects, and addressing the needs of project development and financing ecosystems.
Our grantees are ushering new groundbreakings in communities nationwide, which will, in turn, increase support for clean energy among residents and policymakers alike.

Addressing Siting and Permitting Barriers
Local siting and permitting challenges are holding clean energy deployment back, straining our ability to build the 500 gigawatts of new clean energy capacity the country will need by the end of the decade.
Our grantees are identifying the keys to faster and more frequent siting and permitting approvals, which will accelerate clean energy deployment and clear the path for benefits to flow to communities.
Developing a High-Quality, Equitable Clean Energy Workforce
Clean energy jobs are growing faster than overall job growth. But these sectors are struggling to attract talent.
Our grantees are bringing thousands of people from a wide range of backgrounds into clean energy careers, where they’ll help launch new businesses and grow entire industries—while building a critical constituency for policymakers.
